The new 2018 Jaguar F-Type SVR is one hell of a luxury car that you can count on for refinement, comfort, and performance. And speaking of performance, this machine comes equipped with a monstrous 5.0L supercharged V8 engine capable of producing a staggering 575 horsepower in output – the highest in the entire Jaguar F-Type heap.
But this well-rounded juggernaut isn’t all about performance on the track, it sure can excite anyone looking for a youthful exuberance wrapped in a stylish package. The interior and exterior are all testament to how bespoke British refinement can be.
On the exterior front, its graceful and flowing shapes mixed with aggressive taut and edgy proportions make it drop-dead gorgeous. In fact, this styling is among one of its greatest strengths when you consider the effect of finely sculpted aerodynamics elements to the overall performance. It goes without saying that the styling catches the eye without the need for overt flamboyance. And this it achieves by combining elegance and athleticism in equal measure.
A sneak peek of the interior reveals superior craftsmanship and top-quality materials. It comes with a two-seat layout that is geared towards luxury and enjoyment. Someone gets a sense of total luxury thanks to premium features that range from ultramodern finishes to quilted performance seats that offer impressive support and comfort.
According to Jaguar, the new model has undergone some weight-reducing changes in order to help improve its overall performance. Most of the weight savings have been gotten from the wheels and exhaust systems. The automaker says it has managed to now save 46 pounds thanks to the use of Carbon Ceramic Matrix Braking system and a further 30 pounds on the standard F-Type wheels. This weight saving should help the F-Type achieve a sharper braking, agile handling, and a more rapid acceleration.
On the aerodynamic end, Jaguar has now managed to optimize the speed and performance of the SVR even better thanks to the use of an active aerodynamic carbon fiber rear spoiler. Unlike before, the SVR is now able to achieve a much lower drag and lift coefficient which Jaguar puts at 2.5% and 15% respectively.
But just how does the Jaguar F-Type drive? This car is able to offer an exceptional feeling of feedback, agility and control thanks to its superb dynamics. These dynamics are underpinned by features such as a sophisticated Electric Power Assisted Steering, forged aluminum double wishbone and a rigid chassis. Furthermore, this machine comes equipped with advanced driving technologies that we’ll cover later in this review. And so to answer the question above, it drives exceptionally!

2018 Jaguar F-Type SVR Interior & Exterior Design
Although the new Jag may not look old, you might actually be surprised to learn that it has been in the market for five years now. But you see, you don’t change something as successful as this one, and this might have been the reason why Ian Callum, Jaguar design chief, didn’t find anything much to go under the knife.
In fact, the new model only returns with very subtle changes that are hardly noticeable. These changes include a replacement of the two slot-like outer intakes and headlights.
Inside, the new 2018 Jaguar F-Type SVR comes with a new infotainment system – Touch Pro. This is the standard system and features impressive features such as a 4G LTE data connection, pinch-and-pan functionality for maps, a customizable home screen, and an 8.0” haptic touchscreen.
According to Jaguar, the new 2018 SVR should impress anyone looking for a total sense of luxury. Regardless of where you look inside, the interior is plastered with exclusive materials ranging from ultra-modern finishes to fine contrast stitching.
The top-of-the-range Jaguar SVR model is available with the Carbon Ceramic Brake package. This package comes bundled with 20-inch Maelstrom five twin-spoke forged alloy wheels and yellow brake calipers. Other available packages include the Exterior Carbon Fiber and the Extended Leather packages.
Performance is one thing that the SVR does very well. The F-Type SVR is the top-of-the-range model in this regard and comes equipped with a stunningly powerful engine – a 5.0L supercharged V8 capable of generating 575 horsepower and 516 pounds-feet of torque. This represents a power bump of 25 horsepower over the previous model it is replacing.
The F-Type 0-60 mph takes a mere 3.5 seconds, while its top speed is electronically-limited to 200 mph. When it comes to fuel economy, EPA says we should expect the new Jag to post 15 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.
Jaguar says the V8 performance is extremely powerful. Response is immediate, acceleration is progressive and rapid, and it is able to optimize power at a range of engine speeds thanks to a dual independent variable cam timing.
When it comes to the available competition, direct rivals in terms of the price range and performance include the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, Porsche 911, Acura NSX, and Audi R8. Also, Nissan GT-R, Cayman/Boxster, and Chevrolet Corvette are additional but less convectional alternatives worth considering.
The 2018 Jaguar F-Type SVR deserves praise for its commendable performance on track, as well as how elegant and stylish the interior and exterior look. Nitpicking however shows there’re some things that have been compromised. Key on this list being interior space. Taller drivers will find the interior space to be very limited – legroom and headroom to be specific.
Also, visibility is limited by the rather thick roof pillars and the rear hatch window. Utility is also limited at the cargo area thanks to a mere 7 cu. ft. In addition to the limited space, the track-oriented Jaguar F-Type SVR also sacrifices on comfort. A user will quickly take note of the cabin noise emanating from the engine during extreme driving.
Despite this, the SVR – and the rest of the competition by extension – are enjoyable luxury cars that drivers will certainly appreciate for their impressive performance whilst on track. The choice of the perfect car in the entire luxury sport car market only boils down to what one considers to be of value in terms of how features and price compare.
