Confirmed to go for sale in early 2018 as a 2019 model year sedan in the U.S market, the new 2019 Genesis G70 debuted at Genesis’ design center in Namyang, Korea some few weeks ago. It’s athletic and characterized by a dynamic and graceful exterior and an intuitively and elegantly designed interior.
Although the sporty sedan segment is a tough nut to crack, the new Genesis G70 seems to have a lot going for it. Its design cues are as a result of the experience leant designing the G80 and G90 – its larger stablemates. According to the automaker, the new model will be available with a trio of engines that include a diesel option and two gasoline units.

As we shall later observe later in the ‘engine specs and performance’ section, the brawniest of them all is a 3.3L turbocharged V6 engine capable of generating 365 horsepower and 376 pounds feet of torque. This is the same engine that the automaker claims can zoom from 0-62 mph in just 4.7 seconds and can top out at 167 mph.
The platform it comes riding on is related to that of the Kia Stinger platform. The platform was unveiled during the North American International Auto Show 2018. And while both platforms have lots of features to share, the Stringer is lightly larger than the G70 and its suspension settings are a bit stiffer.

Interior Design & Technologies
The interior is driver-focused and downright sophisticated. Materials inside have superb fit and finish and the user experience of the technologies has been prioritized. Furthermore, the interior packaging stays true to Genesis brand’s thoughtful DNA on simplicity and genuine functionality devoid of gimmickry.
The packaging provides a comfortable driving experience while the horizontal layout brings a sense of stability. The sport steering wheel is assertive and comfortable while the switchgear is intuitively laid.
Throughout the cabin, Genesis designers employed premium materials, including high-quality soft touch surfaces, metal speaker grills, quilted leather door panels, and aluminum door handles. The dynamism and elegance of the interior is further taken a notch higher by the Nappa leathering of the seats.

For the passenger cabin, the color options include Vanilla Beige, Tobacco Brown, Obsidian Black, Velvet Burgundy, and Sandstorm Gray.
To further supplement the high quality of the materials and personalization options like the colors, the G70 also provides a range of exceptional convenience and comfort features. For instance, there’s smart posture control system, and automatically adjusting seats, heads-up display, exterior mirror, and steering wheel.
Other features include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity offered on the crisp and responsive eight-inch touch screen interface. For entertainment, the sedan comes equipped with a fifteen-speaker Lexicon surround-sound system that Genesis says can provide an audiophile-level acoustic experience.
Again, the 2019 G70 becomes the first vehicle in Korea to feature the ‘Kakao I artificial intelligence platform.
Like an athlete poised to perform, the athletic elegance of the exterior design is captured in both tension and beauty. According to the Head of Genesis Design, Luc Donckerwolke, the new G70 sedan comes as a result of talent, dedication, desire, and fascination Genesis designers have had since the concept was showcased. Furthermore, it’s designed to captivate all senses with its tensioned and sensuous muscular volumes.
The assertive multi-spoke wheels, elegant roofline, and short front overhangs combine to form a dynamic and sleek profile. Even for the untrained eye, a first look at the front of the car speaks volumes about its sporty and muscular performance.
Upfront, the G70 2019 features a prominent crest-type grille, pronounced air intakes, and character lines. Around back, the compact bumper, raised trunk lid, and quad lump theme give it a poised character.
Exterior colors include Marble White, Platinum Silver, Royal Blue, Umber Brown, Blazing Red, Lapis Blue, Racing Gray, Titanium Black, and Carbon Metal. The brilliance of the exterior colors is maxed out by the new paint-finishing method that works to separate high luminosity colors and small, evenly distributed aluminum particles.

As already told, beneath the hood of the G70 are three powertrains – a 3.3L V6 gasoline turbo, a 2.2L inline four diesel, and a 2.0L inline four gasoline turbo.
The 2.2L diesel turbocharged four-cylinder engine is capable of generating 200 horsepower and 325 pounds feet of torque.
