The new 2018 Fiat 500L continues to capitalize on the gains already made by its predecessor. According to the automaker, the new model is poised to retain its segment’s leadership through features such as ample passenger and cargo space, impressive exterior visibility and attractive and easy to use touchscreen interface.
And that’s not all. For 2018, the new model is much more connected and full of upscale technologies. Again, Fiat says that about 40% of the construction components are entirely new. And these new elements now combine in equal measure to provide a distinctive and highly emphasized stylistic characteristics.
The Fiat stable is a family-centered one and offers plenty of options to choose from depending on buyers’ needs. For instance, buyers can choose from three models – the 500L, the 500L Cross, and the 500l Wagon. According to Fiat, the Fiat 500L is one that is designed to bring more appeal and space to buyers.
For 2018, the Fiat 500L brings a boatload of exciting features. These include a new design, a revamped interior, new LED DRLs, and a new set of alloy wheels. For instance, it comes with what Fiat calls ‘Tom Tom navigation’. Integrated within this navigation unit is the IQ Routes feature, which enables a driver find the quickest way to a destination.
But what’s common between all these similar yet functionally different models? Well, to start with, all the aforementioned models come with Normal, Traction +, and Gravity Control response modes. These modes are responsible for altering the driving style and road conditions of the vehicle depending on the existing road conditions.
Also, they share a color palette of 37 combinations. To better illustrate this, the exterior colors you could choose from include Sorrento Yellow, Sicilian Orange, Bellagio Blue, Passion Red, Maestro Grey, Fashion Grey, Tuscan Green, Cinema Black, Ice-Cream White, and Donatello Bronze.
Again, Fiat chose not to update anything under the hood at least for the 2018 year model. 2018 Fiat 500L Exterior Redesign
To begin with, the 500L Cross dimensions are as follows: length – 4.28 meters, width – 1.80 meters, and height – 1.68 meters.
The exterior style, while it has evolved over the years to become what it is today, remains truly distinctive and Fiat to its core. One element that perfectly illustrates this is the “moustache and badge” combination that highlights the front fascia. Others in the same regard include upper headlights, LED daytime running lights and chrome strips below.
Three types of roof are available – matt black, glossy black and body-colored. Furthermore, buyers have 37 color combinations – Passion Red, Ice-Cream White, Donatello Bronze, Bellagio Blue, Cinema Black, Maestro Grey, Sorrento Yellow, Tuscan Green, Fashion Grey, and Sicilian Orange.
The 2018 Fiat 500L Cross model, in addition to the Mode selector, highlights a new dimension to its personality. For example, it features new and rear skid plates, new side protections, a new bumper design, and impressive ground clearance.
2018 Fiat 500L Interior Facelifts & Changes
Ingress and egress is as easy as can be thanks to high-mounted front seats, a level roof line, and large doors. While we give a thumbs up for Fiat’s efforts in trying to make the seats comfortable and as wide as possible, they disappoint when it comes to offering the much-needed support required for a spirited driving experience.
The exterior visibility is laudable. There’s an obstructed view of all directions so much that you could mistake it for a minivan. Nonetheless, the windshield’s large pillars may take some getting used to.

Just like its predecessor, the dashboard design is charming thanks to its cool and contemporary design. The driver will find it uncluttered and clean thanks in part to the dual-gauge instrument cluster that takes away most controls and buttons.
In terms of material quality and technology, Fiat says the new 2018 Fiat 500L is now more than before high-tech and upscale. The cabin is generally convenient, comfortable, and versatile. It is filled to the brim with state-of-the-art equipment and meticulously styled details.
The new 2018 Fiat 500L is available in three tasteful trim models – Fiat 500L Popstar, Fiat 500L Wagon Lounge, and the Fiat 500L Urban. The 500L Popstar trim model expresses the functional, pragmatic side. This is because it features “500” logo-embossed white vinyl inserts, denim central band, black fabric seats, and matching body-color dashboard fascia.
The 2018 Fiat 500L Wagon Lounge trim plays its role as modern and elegant. Buyers can choose cooler and warmer colors for the armrests, black vinyl head restraints, double stitching, and diamond-weave fabric.
The Fiat 500L Urban on the other hand features a more city-life personality. It brings with it state-of-the art equipment and design. Additionally, there’s the impressively large 1.5 square meter panoramic sunroof that makes the cabin brighter.
2018 Fiat 500L Specifications For The Engine
As already told, the new model will still return with last year’s engine – a turbocharged 1.4L four-cylinder rated at 160 hp and 184 lbs. ft. of torque. Mating is through the six-speed automatic transmission system.
A 0-60 mph run takes 8.5 seconds. And while we’re yet to hear from the EPA, last year’s fuel economy ratings of 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway are unlikely to change.
2018 Fiat 500L Release Date & Price
According to other popular online publications, the new model should be expected to go for sale sometime in early 2018. As for the Fiat 500L price, expect to pay a low of $20,995 to a high of $23,895.
Most formidable rivals for the Fiat 500L include the Kia Soul, Mini Cooper, and the Hyundai Tucson. The Hyundai Tucson price starts from around $23,770. And paying that gets you plenty of advanced and infotainment features, a turbocharged engine delivering good fuel economy, and comfortable ride quality.
Next up giving the Fiat 500L a run for its money is the MINI Cooper Countryman. Pricing starts from an MSRP of $23,879, which gets you an impressive rear seat room, sharp handling, tons of customizable settings, and a zippy performance.
Last and not the least is the Kia Soul. Here pricing starts from $16,995. For such a modest amount, you get features like an attractive cabin, a long list of standard and optional features, excellent crash test scores, and impressive passenger space.
All in all, we find the four-door 2018 Fiat 500L to be an ideal option for buyers looking for plenty of passenger space, nice exterior visibility, and attractive dash design. Be that as it may, it isn’t without faults. For starters, the Fiat 500L falls short in terms of ride quality – it’s rather choppy over rough pavement. The rear seats don’t alloy for more cargo flexibility. And lastly, despite the 160 horsepower produced beneath its hood, it still feels notoriously slow.
