As most people within this space might attest to, there’s hardly any other automaker in its class able to amalgamate the fine qualities of a sports car with those of an SUV as Porsche. The best example here for the brand being the 2018 Porsche Macan. During its construction, Porsche was able to build it without making any sacrifice to its handling and performance for utility. Ingenious we’d say. But how was it able to do that?
Well, the cunningness starts from beneath the hood. This bad-boy comes equipped with a whopping five fast-revving engines, with power ranging from 252 horsepower all the way to 440 horsepower. Add to that a quick-shifting seven-speed transmission system, a rear-based all-wheel-drive, and a calibrated suspension system and you have yourself a perfect grand tourer.

Being Porsche, nothing was to left to chance when it came to offering high comfort levels. We find the well-equipped and upscale interior to be notoriously understated. There’re are acres upon acres of fine fabric even for the base model. Mix in a boatload of up-to-the-minute technologies and you’ve got yourself the right combo for luxury and comfort.
Be that as it may, the latest offer from Porsche isn’t without shortcomings. To begin with, the Macan isn’t that spacious. Mind you, it is categorized as an SUV. The other downside is in terms of the mind-dizzying options offered. Well, the latest Macan can easily make you break the bank as there’re tons of customization options and packages. That said however, the 2018 Porsche Macan should be the go-to option for buyers looking for a small, stylish sporty crossover.

The new Macan doesn’t change much aesthetically. The hood, side, and rear profile all return almost unchanged for 2018. That notwithstanding, Porsche still rolled up its sleeves and gave the Macan some updates, subtle as they may seem.
Up front, the headlights seem slightly different from those of the previous model while the vents below seem to be extending much farther, to the point of almost making contact with the grille. The foglights too have changed. Unlike the round LED units it features on the existing model, the new model seems to have gotten horizontal ones.
Save for those tiny details, the new Macan seems to return unchanged in other areas. Exterior 2018 Porsche Macan colors include Black, Agate Gray Metallic, Custom Color, Carrara White Metallic, Jet Black Metallic, Carmine Red, Mahogany Metallic, Volcano Gray Metallic, Sapphire Blue Metallic, White, Rhodium Silver Metallic, Palladium Metallic, Night Blue Metallic, and Carmine Red.
2018 Porsche Macan Interior & Trim Levels
While it may seem intimidating at first especially for a Porsche newbie, the layout is downright ergonomic. There’s no cluttering and the design language is utterly a design triumph. Furthermore, the audio systems and touchscreen navigation are intuitive.
Being an SUV, users of the Macan will find entry and exit to be fuss-free. This is especially when it is configured with the optional air suspension. Again, unlike most SUVs out there, the Macan actually sits lower.
Space. Although the Macan is smaller than most in comparison, you’ll find its interior space surprisingly sufficient. This is partly because of its ample-sized windows, low dashboard and creatively designed seats. In fact we think Porsche compromised the luggage room for passenger space.

When it comes to utility, it becomes quite apparent that the automaker designed it to be as sportier as possible. Needless to say, being sporty however means less utility. That said, the small-item storage space is wanting. The armrest bin, glovebox, and door pockets are extremely modest. Cargo space is minimal. And Porsche says, you can only get up to 53 cu. ft. of space with the rear seats up.
Technology wise, the new 2018 Porsche Macan provides the latest there’s in the tech world. User-friendliness should however be taken with a pinch of salt. Navigation and security can be monitored through Porsche’s own Android/iOS compatible app. The audio and navigation controls are available on the steering wheel or the head unit. Although the screen might be smaller than those offered by its solid competitors, the screen’s responsiveness and resolution deserves appreciation. Gestures, pinching, taps, and swipes are responsive as well.
As previously told, the new model is available in a whopping five trim models. These range from the barebones base to the well-equipped Turbo with performance package and S, GTS, and Turbo slotting in between. Standard systems across the entire lineup include an all-wheel drive, and a 7-speed DCT transmission system.
Porsche Macan Base
The base is available with eighteen-inch wheels, xenon headlights, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, three-zone automatic climate control, automatic wipers, a lane-departure warning system, simulated suede upholstery, cargo seat covers, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat.
Infotainment features include a 10-speaker sound system, a CD player, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, and seven-inch Porsche Communication Management system.
Porsche Macan S
Opting for the Macan S gets you an even more powerful engine, dual-twin-pipe exhaust pipe, different exterior trim types, more powerful brakes, and 19-inch wheels.
Porsche Macan GTS
Steps up with 20 extra horsepower and 30 lbs. ft. of torque over the Macan S. Additional features include a sport exhaust, a sport-tuned adaptive air suspension system, adaptive headlights, heated sport seats, front-seat memory settings, 20-inch wheels, and unique exterior design elements.
Porsche Macan Turbo
Builds on what the Macan GTS offers by adding an even more brawny engine, upgraded front sport seats, a heated steering wheel, a fourteen-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system, a navigation system, a simulated suede headliner, a full leather upholstery, and an adaptive suspension dampers.
Porsche Macan Turbo with Performance Package
Still with us? Finally at the helm of the food chain is the 2018 Porsche Macan with Performance Package. To begin with, it comes equipped with the most powerful engine rated at 440 horsepower and 442 lbs. ft. of torque. Other features include an adaptive air suspension system and some performance tweaks.
Here, Porsche offers an extensive option list, including packages and standalone ones. Packages include the Premium and Premium Package Plus. The former comes bundled with a fourteen-speaker Bose audio system, adaptive headlights, front and rear heated seats, and auto-dimming mirrors. The Premium Package takes things even more premium with its ventilation and memory integrated fourteen-way power front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and keyless entry and ignition.
Out of all the models aforementioned, we truly think the Macan S provides the most value. It is the ideal option for daily driving while still providing that capability that we highly doubt you’ll ever need. For those with extra bucks to burn, we recommend getting the optional premium package. It provides for an innumerable customization possibilities including a nice group of desirable equipment without getting too fancy.
2018 Porsche Macan Interior Colors include Agate Gray, Saddle Brown, Espresso, Black/Luxor Beige, Pebble Gray, Garnet Red/Black, and Black/Garnet Red.
As previously told, the new 2018 Porsche Macan comes with a whopping five engines. One each for the available trims. The base model comes with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 252 horsepower and 273 pounds-feet of torque.
According to the EPA, the base Macan should be able to return 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
The Macan S gets you a spirited 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine rated at 340 horsepower and 339 pounds-feet of torque. Official EPA figures estimate its fuel economy to be 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.
Moving on, the GTS comes equipped with an even more powerful version of the V6 engine. It gets an additional 20 hp and 30 pounds ft. of torque respectively. EPA says we should expect it to return 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.
Next up is the Macan Turbo. Beneath its hood is fitted a 400-horsepower V6 engine also generating 406 pounds feet of torque. Finally, the most powerful model comes equipped with an even more powerful engine rated at 440 horsepower and 442 pounds-feet of torque.
